Did we save the world from 250 million plastic bags last year? According to Morsbag, maybe we did!

Morsbags are what are generally called “a sociable guerilla bagging network.” They encourage folks around the world to come together and use fabric they have lying around like used curtains etc. to stitch their own cloth bags.

Making drastic cuts in the Carbon Emissions seems to be the decadal goal for every Developed as well as Developing country. The Kyoto Protocol, set to expire in 2010, has been quite a debatable topic since its conception in December 1997.

Bjørn Lomborg, a professor at the Copenhagen Business School has some controversial views on the Kyoto Protocol’s approach to global warming. According to him, the Kyoto Protocol is unnecessarily complex. This recent article in the Washington Post has summarized his views brilliantly.

New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn joined with fellow elected officials and Lauren Bush, George Bush’s neice, on Monday as a resort to push a bill aimed at reducing the city’s plastic shopping bag dependence through the City Council bill.

Lauren Bush who is the Honorary Spokeswoman for the United Nations World Food Program, initiated the FEED Bag concept, which she launched on-line in April for the World Food program. The Proceeds from the sale of reusable burlap and cotton bags, with the word “FEED” stamped on the side, will help the U.N. provide a child with food for an entire school year.

6 months ago Sainsbury’s started selling reusable bags at their counters. The result of this step is truly amazing. The number of plastic bags given by then fell by 85 million!

Why do we love waste?

John Humphrys in his recent article in the Daily Mail put forth a serious question for his readers ‘why do we love waste?’. He has told us how he went for a swim on the beach near his house in Greece. He fell into the water only to realize himself surrounded by plastic. He says that a trillion bags are thrown away every minute around the world, 16 billion in Greece alone.
